Counsellor/Psychotherapist/Clinical Supervisor

Clinical Supervision

Supervision

I offer supervision for trainee, qualified counsellors, psychotherapists and wellbeing practitioners, individually and in small groups.

I have completed a level 6 Diploma in Supervision. The model of supervision I use to deliver clinical supervision is Inskipp and Proctor’s Supervisory working alliance model. (Inskipp F & Proctor B: 1995) The key components of the model are (Formative) learning and growth, (Normative) monitoring and (Restorative) support.

My initial BACP accredited diploma in integrative counselling and subsequent continuous professional development underpins my supervision work in many ways, I attempt to build a warm trusting and friendly supervisory relationship.

I draw on my relational training by considering and exploring my supervisees insights on their clients.

My Psychodynamic training enables me to recognise transference and countertransference and look for parallel processes and identify productive ways of working with these in my supervisory relationships. These opportunities are also an invaluable way to explore my supervisees relationships with their clients and our supervisory relationship.

My cognitive training enables me to work with my supervisees on identifying their clients automatic negative thought patterns, negative self-schemas and errors in logic. Working with my supervisees, I can help them aid their clients in healthier ways of being.

My aim is to encourage and support my supervisees in practicing safely and ethically, Thus, enabling them to work as effectively as possible with each client. Supervision provides the reflective space in which to share your successes as well as your concerns, ask questions or talk about that intervention that didn't work!

Supervision is a crucial part of the work of a counsellor or psychotherapist, in terms of reflective practice, professional development, the maintaining of ethical and professional standards and self-care. I believe my job as a supervisor is to encourage my supervisees to be the best therapist, they want to be whilst monitoring and safeguarding the interests of their clients. I draw on all my skills and knowledge to achieve this.
